Hello there! This guide will cover the general leveling of the Assassin class, I will provide a list of the basic gears necessary and stats needed for each area and links will be provided for each monster. However, this guide is tailored for RevivalRO and may not be accurate on a server with different exp rates/teleport system. And as I personally play a Sonic Blow Assassin cross, my build preference is biased and Sonic blow is only a single facet of what the assassin class can do.
I am also stipulating that a sonic blow/grimtooth oriented build is the fastest way to level, not that it is the best build in every situation. Keep that in mind please.
Important, this a guide on how to level an Assassin and Assassin Cross. This guide will not tell you how to play Ragnarok overall, but it will include helpful tips for getting ahead. The rates are 150/150/50, and leveling should be cake. The gear listed are mostly things to be gotten as a trans character, because you need basically god damn nothing to trans an assassin.
Stocking piling items is key to playing a solo assassin well.
Assassins are a highly gear intensive class, but it is very rewarding to get a high level assassin cross. Versatile and Mobile, it is very hard to stop an Assassin cross from doing what it wants in PvM. The one barrier we face is our heavy reliance on EDP for good damage. ( bar being in a party and using a soul breaker build! )
With that said, I have included helpful tips to make farming easier( Setting @go to alt+key commands ), and listed out specific leveling spots that will increase your gear/zenny just by killing stuff there. For example; High orcs is slightly more efficient then Nightmares for experience, but the drops sell for less and the card is useless. The low chance for an infiltrator is a bonus too.
Good luck, and enjoy the guide! Any questions/comments/criticism ask away below.
Happy Huntings.
Things to note; You will need a slave soul linker and an endow slave for general farming. It reduces the amount of stress you go through by a lot. I recommend having these characters on the same alt-account and just switching back and forth as you need them. This way your computer won't die and your main client won't lag to death, since 2 clients is fairly easy to manage. The guide will not use the endow slave until being a high level assassin cross, although it is useful as an assassin. Only a linker is required for smooth leveling.
Slave Soul Linker; Assassin Soul link provides +200% damage for the Sonic blow skill outside of WoE, +125% damage during WoE.
Slave Sage; Elemental Katars are fairly hard to get for someone just picking up the assassin class, red bloods and green lives drop from the mobs in Ant hell. They are a life saver, and the half hour it takes to make an endow slave is well worth it.
Exploiting the elemental weakness of a foe, combined with a Soul link can make your sonic blows easily reach 12k+ with under 100 total str and a bad weapon. Later on With Enchant deadly poison ( An Assassin Cross skill ), proper cards and max str; it's not hard to hit 90k damage Sonic blows. With Eske, which I will talk more about later, 350k sonic blows are fairly easy to achieve with basic damage gears. Lex can take that even further, but its really not practical for solo leveling.
Endow materials, 1 is consumed upon cast. Chance to fail on skill use if the skill isn't maxed.
Flame Launcher - Red blood. @whodrops
Frost Weapon - Crystal blue @whodrops
Lightning Loader - Wind of verdure @whodrops
Seismic Weapon - Green Live @whodrops
This is without Lex, Without Eske and about 120 total str. ( the max base stat here is 150, max level is 175 )
Now despite what I'm showing here, a few things about sonic blow need to be taken into consideration.
First is that the damage registers on the target, before any numbers show up. And the damage registers in full. This means that if you wanted to, you could cast sonic blow and receive items and exp, then fly wing away before any numbers popped up. Obviously its hard to be that fast, but it is relatively easy to fly wing away after the first hit's numbers register. This means you don't take any of those 'dying attacks' that will sometimes hit you when a monster dies.
It is essential to master this to farm effectively. ( Not that its very hard, but it is important ) Otherwise you will waste too much time on having to heal/killing a monster. Single target killing is only effective when it can be done quickly. Otherwise you might as well mob Venatu from 99-175.
At the same time, mastering backslide is an important skill. If you mis-judged the size of a mob or the distance of en enemy. It is the perfect opportunity to backslide! Very useful for getting yourselves out of sticky situations and is a staple for any assassin cross. I keep mine on the f4/4 key permanently.
And a most useful tool. Hit Alt+M and set any of those button presses to @commands! My Alt+1 is set to @go 0. So I can immediately warp back to prontera whenever I want.
Dual Dagger Assassin Cross's are better at Emperium breaking in WoE, and can potentially level faster then Katar Assassins in PvM. However they will not be discussed because they require a Doppleganger MvP card , or an Ice pick to be truly effective. Other interesting leveling combo's only pop up as a transcended assassin cross, non-trans I will almost always still with Katars. ( grimtooth/sonic blow )

Humble beginnings; Level 1-45
As RevivalRo starts up, for those of you familiar with Ragnarok, most people would expect the boring old training grounds and then begin to make their way over to the novice grounds for some free novice pots. But BAM you got square porings in your face. They look vicious and you start unarmed. What do you do?
( The novice training grounds, and free novice pots are still in the same spot. The starting map @go 15 is just loaded with box porings as an alternative. I highly suggest heading right over the first bridge and finishing novice training just to get the free novice pots. However the box-ring's all drop novice pots so it is not necessary. )
Stats should start something like this, since they are the three most important for leveling a NT Assassin.
Level 1-15; Talk to the Novice Book NPC and pick up a thief book, hit Alt+S to open your skill window and F-12 to turn the skill bar to visible mode. Set envenom to a skill button and begin the slaughter. (1-9 on the keyboard, must have chat window closed to use skills) Stay unarmed and spam Envenom on the nearest couple of square monsters. Upon hitting level 15 head to prontera (Either via the Warper there, or by typing @go Prontera/@go 1)
The Job changer is in Prontera, to the right of where you warp in. From here on you can pick whatever you want obviously, but the rest of this guide is only directed at Thieves and Assassins and their Transcendent counter parts. After the guide part, there will be an abbreviated leveling guide, traditionally styled.
Level 15-30; After hitting level 15 and changing to a thief.
After receiving a new dagger from your job change, Type @go 15 into the chat window to head back to the training area. Kill a few box-rings and get to job level 11. The first skill you want to get is double attack. Max it immediately and then head back to town.
Head over to the warper and select payon dungeon, floor 1. Your first targets are Familiar and Skeleton. Kill a few of these bad boys and quickly jump to level 25 or so. After that you'll want to kill Zombie and Poporing until you feel satisfied. The most important skills at this level are Maxed Double attack and Improve dodge.
After Payon dungeon my character looked like this
At this point it would be a good idea to head over to ant hell and farm some basic endow materials before you become an assassin.
Thief skill tree; Thief Skill tree
Level 31-50; You've got jobs and you've got bases, but where do stat points go?
If you haven't already touched your stat points, now would be a good time to do it. 25 dex, 25 str and 25 agi is a good start. Generally evenly distributed stats aren't particularly useful, but as a thief you need to work on creating a foundation for the rest of your stats since thieves are a melee class.
At 31 it's always a good idea to head over to orc dungeon level 1. The Orc Zombies, Steel Chonchons and Skeleton Zombies may seem daunting at first, but they quickly turn into safe exp.
At 50 I recommend pushing agi before str or dex. Your stat totals should look something like this; 40 str, 50 agi, 30 dex. With the other stats at 1.
Level 51-65; The Grind beginnings
Toy factory level 1 and 2 are your friends for this part. Christmas Cookies, Cruisersand Myst cases ( if you can hit them ) are what you should be leveling off of until you hit job 41.
The exp is fantastic here all the way until job 41 and beyond.
As a thief the skills you want maxed before job changing are Improve dodge 10, Double attack 10, steal 5, Hide 10, Envenom 5 and Detoxify 1. Once you've gotten these skills its time to head back to the job changer and become an assassin. Remember to snag the platinum skills from the Job master too.
By this time you should be in the low 50's, maybe the high 50's or low 60's. You want to come back to the same enemies ( Toy factory monsters ) you were killing for a while and get to job level 22 or so. Just enough to max Sonic blow and Katar Mastery and get a few points into enchant poison. Head down to Zeroms and Pasana's in Sphinx_ and farm up a Panty and undershirt combo. Ridiculously useful at low levels for a Thief class. Panty and Undershirt combo Information
Level 65-80; Oh god not another Nightmare
It's time to head down to Nightmares in geffen 2.
Equip the katar you got from job changing(Jhamadhar), enchant poison your weapon and soul link yourself.
With 60 base str you should be very easily able to two shot Nightmares, and take relatively little damage in doing so. The goal here is to farm them until you get an Infiltrator. It may take a couple hundred nightmare kills, but the exp is good and you can use the drops to save up some money along the way.
Keep in mind that Nightmares are ghosts, and you need an element of some sort to hit them. Neutral attacks will miss, hence the poison enchant.
I wasn't entirely scrolled down, but I got an infiltrator fairly early on for this run. Remember you need to be base 75 before you can use it.
After obtaining some levels, some money and hopefully an infiltrator. It is now time to dive into Rachel sanctuary floor one. Most of your time will be spent here getting to 99 as a Non Trans assassin. Without gear, this is by far the easiest place to level.
However should you choose to not farm an Infiltrator, there are a few alternatives. ( although they feel slower, but I happen to love fighting nightmares )
1; Alligators on Comodo field 1 are pretty good for leveling. Their card is pretty useful and they drop Ygg seeds. Which will be very very important later on. This is my number 2 leveling spot for assassins, this place is fantastic for thief classes.
2; High orcs on geffen field 14; Good exp, not too hard to kill. They hit harder then Nightmares though, and there is no chance to get a useful weapon from them. Not as good as Nightmares or Alligators In my opinion, but a solid and classic place to level nonetheless.
3; Moscovia 3, kill Mavka's. Nothing fancy here but its an easy way to stockpile zenny, even with the drop-rate nerf on the good items we have here. It requires a little bit of a higher level then the other places, but its a solid choice. A fire katar is preferred but not necessary.
Level 80-99; The home stretch
Vanberksand Isilla are the main targets here, avoid aggro'ing gremlins and try to stay out of the hodremlin's way. The main strategy here is
1; Gather a mob of as many Vanberks and Isillas as you reasonably can
2; Order them over the same few cells by running around in circles,
3; Hide and spam Grimtooth.
The only monsters on this map able to reveal you from Hide are Hodremlin's and there are very few of them.
The drops will add up very quick, and they all sell fairly nicely. The Isilla card is great for mages/rogues and the Vanberk card is the best str based headgear card. An Infiltrator gives a huge boost in damage, but it isn't really needed since they can't attack back anyway.
Agi is important to flee hits while gathering a mob and also increases attack speed, Grimtooth's cool down is directly effected by attack speed. So having a good amount of agi actually increases your DPS, and is necessary to kill the mob before it spreads. However STR and being able to hit your target are the two most important stats for an assassin. My stats ended up like this while leveling at Rachel Sanctuary 1.
While this may seem boring, this is one of the safest maps to level on. Vanberk cards are useful for a variety of Assassin builds, the drops sell good and Berets/Mes[3] are pretty useful pieces of gear.
Level 99; Before transcending
Before you transcend there are some quests that are very very easy to start, that you can hand it with relative safety as a level 1/1 High novice. The only one I strongly suggest you do is the ice dungeon quest.
This quest will jump you from a 1/1 High Novice to an 80/1 High Novice. It only requires 5x Rough winds, 1x Hammer[2] and 1x Blank scroll. You can buy Hammers and blank scrolls, and if you have a linker you will be able to OHKO a bunch of mobs that drop Rough wind at a high chance. For more quest information; Ice Necklace Quest
If you absolutely vehemently are opposed to completing this quest, you can level the exact same way as a Non trans thief. It will just take twice as long.
By doing these quests you can skip a rather frustrating leveling experience and get right into the good stuff.
80-90; Well, now you are a level 80 Novice. This is always a really cool feeling. Distribute your stat points and go and get 10 job levels wherever you want. Once a thief you can immediately go back to killing myst cases or Orc lady's. Both are a good source of job exp until the high 30's. Once you've hit job 50 off of Myst cases, Orc ladies, Leaf Cats, High Orcs, Les and the like. Its time to become an Assassin Cross.
Grab some job levels at any of the above mentioned places, however instead of going sonic blow you will want to pump all of you skill points into maxing Katar Mastery, Advanced Katar Research and Grimtooth. Head back to Rachel sanctuary 1 and kill Vanberks and Isilla's with the same strategy as before. This should easily and quickly get you to level 90.
Now that you are a high level Assassin Cross, its time to start focusing on gear. The large majority of the level spots after Rachel Sanctuary actually require you wear something. So lets get into what's good for what builds, and where to get some of it.
[/center]
Garment and shoes;
Tidal shoes[1] + Wool scarf[1] combo
- Dropped in Abbey 1 and 2 by Ragged Zombies and Banshee's respectively. Easy to get, useful combo. great set for a trans Sinx looking to upgrade from a vali's set/nothing.
Diabolus Manteau[1]+ Diabolus Boots[1]
- Manteau dropped by Incarnations of morroc, boots by Satan Morroc himself. Harder to get, but amazing for vit based sinx!
Skin of ventoss[1]
- Gives 200 health and 10 flee, all around solid garment. drops from Incarnations of morroc.
Dragon Manteau[1] + Dragon Vest[1]
- It gives an amazing amount of flee for being slotted, light weight and they give some magic defense. The Vest drops from Draco's, the Manteau is from the Doha's secret orders new world quest. ( scaraba hole 2 access quest )
Armor;
Bone plate[1]
- +10% demi human piercing, str and magic defense. A fantastic armor set for a damage dealer. Drops from Scaraba's in Scaraba 1 and 2.
Kandura[1]
- +1 agi, +5 flee, +2 aspd. Amazing for flee assassins, especially when paired with a Skin of Ventoss.Drops from Fanat in the Arunafelts Guild dungeon, easy prey for Sonic blow assassins!
Really, anything slotted and carded with a Porcellio, Bathory, Evil druid, Marc or Peco Peco card should work just fine. Freeze resist is a must for WoE, Evil druid or Bathory are generally fantastic for leveling., especially at Banshees.
Headgear;
Alice doll[1]
- +10% damage to demi humans, +1 str and slotted. Fantastic hat. Carded with a Nightmare card or a Vanberk card. It drops from Alice herself.
Magni's cap[0]
- +2 str is always useful!
Mid headgear;
Angel of Ghost
- Fairly easy to get, adds 2 str and 15 hit. Very very useful, custom quest for creation is located in the custom guides section of the RevivalRo forum.
Sunglasses[1]
- Fairly hard to get, quest located in the same place as the Angel of Ghost quest. More variety as to what you can use however.
Accessories;
2x Bradium rings[1]
- Str, vit and +attack with a slot. fantastic accessories.
2x Ring[1]
- Not as good as bradium rings, but much easier to get.
The Sign
- The quest is slightly frustrating, but +5% attack is powerful.
Assassins glove[1]
- When paired with the Krishna[2] Katar, -20 flee, +2 crit, +10 sp and +50% Sonic blow damage. It costs 300 instance credits, but is well worth it for Sonic blow damage.
Should all of these seem out of reach, a good start for a beginner set lies with gear like this.
Magni'sCap
Evil wing or angel wing Mid headgear
Panty and Undershirt combo
Vidar's boots
2x Ring[0]
With an Infiltrator[0] or a carded Jur[3] as your main weapon. Until such better weapons can be obtained.
As you make the rapid ascent from 99 to 175, Your weapon is the most important part of your arsenal. EDP, 3x or 4x weapon cards elemental endow and high str will let you one shot most enemies.
The standard cards; Raydric, Kavach Icarus, Green ferus, Marc, Evil druid, Vanberk, Mantis, Hydra and Skel worker are good. There isn't any super secret fancy card combo's for assassin cross leveling.
Weapons should be suited for the monster we are trying to kill. For starting out, elemental Katars are really great. I recommend the Inverse Scare or Unholy touch as they are fairly easy to get. ( as Sinx's!)
As much as I love the Vit based Sb build for leveling, PvP and WoE. General farming fares much better with an agi based build. This will help you cut down on supplies and last longer in a dungeon or field.
For MvP'ing, AGI based builds are better before the target uses its 'power up' skill, where it gets increased hit and flee. Once a target ( Lucifer for example ) enters into that state, the +50% bonus to the hit equation is very important.
The +50% hit skill for Sonic Blow actually doesn't add 50% hit, it increase our %chance to hit, after the hit-flee formula is worked out.
So if we have an 80% chance to land a blow normally, with this skill we gain 10% hit, 50% of the remaining 20%, raising our chance to 90%.
Damage cards become increasingly important as you need to kill stronger and stronger monsters. The way the formula works is that same-type modifiers are added together. That is 3 hydra cards ( each +20% damage to demi human monsters ) are added together. For an 60% increase in damage.
Think of it like 1 = normal attack. 1+.2+.2+.2=1.6 ( +60% damage )
Conversely different type modifiers are multiplied. Meaning a Hydra, Vadon, Skel worker ( on a Demi-human, Medium, fire obviously ) are multiplied. For a 65% increase in damage.
Think of it like 1= normal attack. 1*1.2*1.2*1.15=1.656
Since everything is rounded down in RO, thats taken as 1.65 or a 65% damage increase.
Size cards are more useful at low and mid level , any attack stat of over 550 benefits more from 2x race, 2x element then including a size card for a third multiplicative boost and a small +5 attack.
The damage loss however is only 3% if you do choose to include a size card.
This is largely because with high stat caps here ( 150 ) It is much easier to hit more then 550 attack. Even with weaker base damage weapons like specialty jur[4]s.
For most enemies, all you need is the proper elemental katar+EDP and a soul link to get things done. It takes about an hour to farm and create 150 edp, which should last you more then a full day of farming or a few hours of hard leveling .
99-175; Getting past 99
Once you've been able to hit 99, things are basically smooth sailing for a long while.
If you can't use EDP, Mobbing venatu's in Juperos, Dragons in Abyss lakes or farming 0.1% exp monsters like Removers or Nightmares can last you a good while.
With EDP the Bifrost, Light halzen 3, Morroc incarnations, abbey, Guardians in thors, cornus, hillsrions, tatacho's, dolomedes and the like. All open up as viable places to level and you can go to any of these places at any time. ( as long as you have a weapon. )
Bifrost is considered one of the harder dungeons, and is used to level by people looking to hit 175. But as an assassin we can start leveling there in our 90's.
My gear for this area was;
Alice doll[1] w/ vanberk card
Bone plate[1] w/ Porcellio card
+10 specialty Jur[4] w/ 2x Hydra cards and 2x mandragora cards
2x Bradium ring[1] with Mantis cards
Shoes/garment are irrelevant if you can one shot enemies!
( El discastes field )Dolomedes; 2x Mandragora, 2x Caramel
( Bifrost field ) Little fatums; 2x Hydra, 2x Mandragora
( Sograt desert 21 and 22 )Morroc incarnations; 2x AK, 2x Strouff + Aspersio. For the valk incarnations, 2x AK, 2x Santa poring
These were my 3 favorite leveling spots on my grind to 175. Aside from having a buff slave, EDP and a proper weapon. I didn't need to wear anything else to survive here.
SB>FW>Repeat til buffs wore off>rebuff>Repeat.
Now, I prefer the Sonic Blow Str/Vit/Dex build. A build that sacrifices Agi for more health, better pot efficiency and more hit. This build is generally for WoE or OHKO'ing monsters. At 175 are my stats
Weapons for this include the Elemental katars, carded Specialty Jurs, Krishnas and Infiltrators. The idea is to maximize single skill burst ( in the form of Sonic blow ) while also being tanky enough to reach those back lines. We kill squishy characters and one shot enemies in PvM to level.
However, there is merit to all of the other kinds of assassin builds. Crit melee assassin's are great against high defense target mobs and can be used to position lag a target in WoE. Higher Agi is also useful for spamming grimtooth more. ( and I would advise a split between agi and vit for leveling. )
Soul breaker assassins have the most innate durability due to the fact that they can use a shield and get to attack from afar. This skill needs a specific set up centered around zipper bear carded refined weapons too. But the damage they can pump out with the right gear and a minstrel with Strings and Rift up is scary.
Dagger assassins by far break Emperiums the fastest. Their player damage is sub par because even slight displacement or position lag can interrupt the stream of attacks. But by the numbers their DPS is very high. The main problem is that balancing damage and attack speed/agi is difficult without being a high level.
I hope this guide was at least remotely helpful, any questions let me know here or Message me in game on IGN; Superbia
