Episode 0: The Way of The Ninja
So, you're interested in becoming a ninja, eh? Well, I suppose that's why you clicked on this guide, right? Alright, here we go!
- To begin, a ninja has 3 types of builds to offer: throwing, melee, and magic. All three are fun to use, and I think melee is tougher to master than the other two.
- Being a ninja also means thinking fast, and knowing how to make your getaway from danger stealthily.
- Always make sure that whatever you're fighting has no time to retaliate, and always make an effort to confuse them.
Episode 1: The Road to Max
From levels 1 to 15
You're going to want to stay in the Novice Area for a little while. Buy a Beginner's Falchion, as it makes the leveling go a lot faster. It may also be in your interest to use the novice books available, preferably the Swordsman/Archer/Thief tutorials. Buy a Merch tutorial, too. That way your ninja can make more money from looting (type @autoloot to loot everything) here. Just make sure you sell what you want to before you job change, as you won't be able to equip the novice books after that time. (Note: You may want to change to ninja before you get to lv15, allowing yourself some time to gain job levels for some skills)
Once you job change, you'll notice all the neat little gems available to you (i.e, your skills). Since you're low level, the best build to use right now is throwing. The ability Throw Shuriken is unlocked with 1 skill level in Throwing Mastery. Throw Shuriken is given bonus damage based on how high it's level is and how high Throwing Mastery's level is. The best part is that Shurikens will never miss and pierce an enemy's defense. Now, once you have at least TM lv1 and TS lv1, you can move onto Payon Dungeon!
From levels 15 to 25~30
First things first...buy some Shurikens in the shop! You should have more than enough zeny by now for at least 100. Set 'em as you would any type of ammo, and then head into Pay Dun.
Since you're still slightly inexperienced with throwing, it's best to avoid the Zombies here. For now, stick to killing off the Familiars and the Skeletons from a distance. Since Familiars are fast little buggers, you may have to engage them in a bit of melee before you can continue. It'd be a good idea to set the Novice Potions you've obtained from the moneyrings on a hotkey so that you can stay alive.
Once you've gotten the hang of it, Zombies are the way to go. If you happen upon a Poporing, kill them too. They give the most exp out of all the enemies here, ironically.
Once you reach lv20, you can buy Raincloud Shurikens from the Ninja Shop. They're a bit more costly, but give you more atk.
From levels 25+ to 40
By the time you hit lv25+, you should have enough skill points for Throw Kunai. There are five types of elements for kunai, but the ones that you want to spend your money on for now are Heat Wave kunais. Equip em the same way you would shurikens, and head to Einbroch (@go 19). Kunais aren't very costly, so they are also affordable for you.
Head to the top of the map and head into the warp (there will be a red dot on the top signifying it's position). Here, you can kill Metalings. Another good spot for them is the field above Lighthalzen (@go 20).
Now, about Throw Kunai: The amount of SP it takes to cast it will go down with a higher skill level (max is 5 for this skill). It hits the enemy 3x per throw, dishing out a total of 300% of your atk. This also pierces defense and never misses, in addition to having the elemental bonus of whatever kunai is in use at the time.
Note: You'll also notice Throw Huuma Shuriken and Throw Zeny down the line. Those skills are not required for leveling, but I will go into them later in my skills assessment section)
From levels 40 to 60
Now, there are a three places I go to during this time. I list them here for you:
1. Les: Yes, that's right, everyone's favorite place! Not only can you attack safely from a range, you can also pierce their defense with a fire elemental kunai. Thanks to their low HP, they go down quite quickly and provide a nice amount of exp. One thing to take note of is that if you're an experienced thrower, you can level here much earlier.
2. Orc Dungeon: Not as fast as Les, but the enemies are easy pickin's.
3. Einbroch Field: Geographers! They give more exp than Les do, but do not drop sharp leaves. You may get the occasional headgear drop, which you can sell or use if you'd like. Just make sure you locate one geo at a time. It's never good to attack them in a group.
From levels 60 to 99
The easiest and quickest way to reach lv86 is to farm sharp leaves from Les. Take a look at Koda's Sharp Leaf guide to learn about the quest.
With a magic build, you can begin to mob Seals. Wind Blade, Lightning Crash, and North Wind are the skills that will do the trick for this. The latter two skills require Wind Orbs from the shop for each use. Watch out, as the price of orbs may be costly for you. Make each hit count. Lightning Crash is an AoE wind spell you should use when there is a high mob concentration. North Wind is also an AoE spell, but acts more in the sense of Grimtooth in which it hits enemies along the line of where you cast it.
Once you pass lv70 (or reach lv86), you can complete the New World quests and try your luck in Scaraba Dungeon attacking One/Two Horns with Crimson Blossom and Dragon Fire Formation. You can also try throwing fire kunais at them, since it will pierce their defense. Make use of the portals here if you can't outspeed them. Run into one and back out, and the scarab won't be aggro anymore.
New World mobs also give good exp, but are somewhat tough to kill all by yourself. The same goes for Abbey, Thors, Thanatos(?), and even Geffenia. You can make use of Water Escape Technique as a means of slowing the enemy down (works similarly to Quagmire), and Crimson Fire Formation acts like Fire Wall, but completely surrounds you. Dragon Fire Formation is also an AoE, which strikes the enemy with a burning pillar that deals splash damage in a 5x5 area around the target. Cast Off Ciceda can save you, too. You need Soul to use it, though. Illusionary Shadow is also a great skill to make use of.
So, there you have it! Leveling all the way from 1 to 99. Now, onto gears and the full analysis of each build!
Episodes 2: Reaching Your Potential
In this section, you can find the specific builds that you need for each build. It's somewhat self explanatory, but here they are.
Melee and Throwing
Str:99
Agi:60+
Vit:50+
Int:1
Dex:1
Luk:1
99 Str is a must for either melee or throwing builds. Since Melee builds are going to be in close proximity with other monsters and/or players during PvP, it's best to invest more in Vit. As for Throwers, since you're going to be at a range during battle (and spamming your throwing skills as fast as you can before hiding again), you should invest more in Agi for your ninja.
- Make sure to keep Cast off Ciceda Shell at all times. The same should go for Soul and Illusionary Shadow.
- Keep Hiding on your hotkeys so that you have easy access to it.
- Tatami Strike acts as a self Pneuma. It's always good to use this whenever you're under attack from classes such as the Sniper.
